Painted over a textured surface of various materials, “Concern” emerged through the process of continuous layering. The image of the face eventually developed, as a result of my own concern about the political corruption in the United States. Without entirely realizing my objective at the start of this piece, I soon realized that I wanted to create a facial expression to show the worry and disappointment felt by hardworking Americans. “Concern” represents the state of our nation in this economic recession caused by a corrupt and broken government. My hope with this piece is to visually capture the emotion of “we the people” and the feeling of financial helplessness.
